Chelsea have lodged an appeal over their one-year transfer ban, FIFA have confirmed.The club were issued with a two-window ban and fined 460,000 last month for breaching 29 transfer rules.1

Chelsea may not be able to sign players during their appeal process

The punishment is a result of the worlds governing bodys investigation into Chelseas signing of 29 players under the age of 18, including Bertrand Traore, who joined Lyon for 8.8million last summer.Now, Chelsea face an anxious wait to see whether their ban will be temporarily lifted.Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have all been hit with similar offences, but were able to sign players while FIFA reviewed their respective appeals.A FIFA spokesman said: We can confirm that FIFA has received an appeal from Chelsea FC over the said case.As a general rule we do not make comparisons with previous cases.There is no exact timetable for the hearings and decisions taken by the FIFA appeal committee. FIFA could stop Chelseas planned 200million spending spree this summer.It is understood that FIFAs appeal committee chairman Thomas Bodstrom will decide if the Blues ban is delayed or starts in the next transfer window.When the transfer ban was announced, Chelsea categorically refuted the findings.
