Steven Gerrard has learnt to control his emotions since retiring as a player and entering the world of coaching.Gerrard, 38, announced his retirement in November 2016 and a couple of months later he started working as a youth coach for his former club, Liverpool.The former England captain was promoted to Under-18 manager for the beginning of the 2017/18 season, and one year later he had accepted his first senior management role – taking charge of Rangers.2

Gerrard decided to begin his managerial career with one of the biggest clubs in world football

The months since then have certainly been more positive than negative, with impressive results secured in Europe and on the domestic front keeping the Ibrox club challenging for silverware.His most recent result was one he’s unlikely to better throughout the remainder of his managerial career – a 7-1 thrashing of Motherwell – and, like fellow Premier League legend Frank Lampard, Gerrard seems to have taken to coaching like a duck to water.But it hasn’t been a smooth transition, with Gerrard needing to change his personality from his playing days. “I have to be aware I must control my emotions a lot more,” Gerrard told the Daily Mail. “It’s not about me now. It was about me when I played.“Now the challenge is to get a group as right as I can, using my journey and experiences to help them.”Gerrard had plenty of experiences at the elite level of the game, winning a host of trophies throughout his storied career.2

But does he get the same enjoyment standing at the sidelines as he did on the other side of the white line?He continued: “Winning as a player is fantastic, winning as a manager now is a great buzz.“Losing? There is no difference in the hurt. Winning a trophy as a player? Now that’s special, incredible. And I would love to be in a position where I experience that as a manager. That is what I want.“I want to win a trophy achieve something special. So I’d like to come back to that what you just asked me I can’t answer it, not at the minute. I hope I get the chance to try one day.”
