Chelsea transfer news: Who is Malcom? The Barcelona winger who could replace Willian at Stamford Bridge
There’s a lot of activity brewing at Chelsea during the January transfer window. And one of the biggest stories to emerge sees Barcelona renew their interest in Brazilian Willian.Willian’s days at Chelsea could be numbered3
Willian’s days at Chelsea could be numbered
But there’s a twist this time. Instead of offering just cash for Willian, Barca have reportedly seen a offer of50million AND unsettled winger Malcom rejected.Malcom, also Brazilian, completed his move to the Nou Camp from Bordeaux in the summer but has really struggled to make a name for himself in LaLiga. So just who is Malcom and what would he offer to the Blues if the club were to accept a further offer? Here is everything you need to know.

Factfile

Name: Malcom Filipe Silva de OliveiraAge: 21Place of birth: Sao Paolo, BrazilPosition: WingerMajor honours: Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A (2015)

Style of play

Malcom is a winger who’s left footed and prefers to play on the right wing. Incidentally it’s roughly the same position as Lionel Messi so that may explain why he has struggled to get in the Barca team. However, his form at Bordeaux shows he is a very skilful player who loves to cut inside and get a shot away.He scored plenty of goals from distance in Ligue 1 and loves a nutmeg too. A very exciting player to watch.

What has he achieved in his career so far?

He started his youth career at hometown club Corinthians before making his professional debut for the club in March 2014 just a couple of weeks after turning 17.Malcom established himself as a regular the following season which saw Corinthians win the Campeonato Brasiliero Serie A in 2015.His form saw him attract the attention of Bordeaux and he moved to France in January 2016 in a 5million deal.Malcom won the Ligue 1 Goal of the Season prize in 2017/183

The winger adapted to European football pretty well and earned himself a new contract in September 2017, signing until July 2021.Some of Europe’s top clubs were after him the following summer though, including Roma and Tottenham but Malcom chose to join Barcelona in a 37million deal.

What’s gone wrong at Barcelona?

Things have not gone well at the Nou Camp for Malcom. He’s made ten appearances for the first-team and has scored just two goals for them but has, according to reports in Spain, taken his time out of the first-team well.He remains confident he can make a breakthrough and believes his spell on the sidelines is purely down to the quality ahead of him.Malcom’s dream move to Barca has become something of a nightmare3

It looks like he may not have a say in the matter of the Willian deal but a move to the Premier League could be a brilliant opportunity to reinvent himself. And with Chelsea playing a 4-3-3 formation, Malcom would be a very good fit for them.

Will this be Marcelo Bielsa’s side as he looks to keep his side top of the Championship table?
