Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City fans mock German Foreign Office over badly aged Champions League tweet
The German Foreign Office has been left with egg on its face after Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City all booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.The Premier League trio all reached the last eight by beating Bundesliga opposition, with Manchester United also making it through the round of 16 by overcoming Paris Saint-Germain.Liverpool completed a perfect round of 16 for English teams in Europe1
Liverpool completed a perfect round of 16 for English teams in Europe
It is the first time in a decade there have been four English teams in the European Cup quarter-finals, and, it has to be said, such an outcome was very unexpected.Manchester City were always backed to make it past Schalke when the round of 16 draw was made, but Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and PSG were expected to triumph against Liverpool, Spurs and Man United respectively. Pep Guardiola’s side lived up to their billing by defeating Schalke 10-2 on aggregate, but Bayern and Dortmund could not do the same against their English opponents.Spurs won both legs of their tie with BVB to progress with a 4-0 aggregate victory, while Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat of Bayern in Munich also sent them through to the last eight.

And the dominance of the English teams in Europe has come back to haunt the German Foreign Office, who made a Brexit joke on Twitter last month calling for Man City, Spurs and Liverpool to be quickly dumped out the Champions League.Football fans are not a forgettable bunch, and English supporters dug this month old tweet up following Liverpool’s victory on Wednesday evening. They, of course, went on to mock the German Foreign Office for their joke, which has aged very, very poorly.
